Promoting water access in Abu-Graib – 1st stage / December 2006

It is the most vital project which the society succeeds in achieving it.
Due to the extra efforts spends by the members of the society to bring success to the branch in Abu- Graib, an excellent relation between the city council, religious, tribal leaders & the society. It became habitual that they visit the main center of the society in Baghdad asking to help by way or another. Many of these requests were granted which was in the ability of the society. The surprise was when they bring the plan for supplying clear water to part of the city which suffers from big shortage in clean water by lay pipelines from the main pipe which is far away from the city. originally this was governmental project assume to be achieve by the ministry of the water sources, during their continuous request to the official authority they only got one answer ( Abu- Graib ) is one of the hot zones in which security is very bad & it is impossible to make any projects. After more than year & half from these fail attempts they decided to ask for help from the society.
All the needed measurements & study done by engineers from the society hopping for some support from other international NGOs or UN agencies. Apologizing was the usual answer. The society was put in new challenge. No available budget for the project with any support.
Vital need to the water especially with the very hot summer in Iraq
Cost for transferring water could not be endured by those poor people.
Members of the society accept the challenge & start gathering the money from charity donations. Within three months the project was completely finish & water reach to more than 650 houses with moderate families of 6- 13 person. 1st of December 2006 will be hold in mind of people of the city as the day of reaching water to their houses
Really all the members of K4IWS are proud of this achievement.


Promoting water access in Abu-Graib / 2nd stage – October 2007

After the success of the society in achieving the project from its own budget, the city council of the city offer another request to the society asking for continuing the project of water in its second stage to reach another more families .
It was easier to apply the second stage due previous experiment.
Security was the main problem facing the team.
More than 800 new houses get benefits from the new project.
